It’s no surprise that one of the most common and frustrating sources of VDI tickets is the logon experience. In pooled or shared environments where users log on multiple times a day, logon issues can drag down the entire estate, which only increases the urgency to fix the problem while adding additional layers of complexity to the investigation process.
To help triage these issues faster, Nexthink now breaks the total logon duration into its individual building blocks, giving you precise timings for Group Policy processing, profile load, and logon script execution, alongside metrics like time-until-desktop-visible and time-until-desktop-ready.
Nexthink has also recently added FSLogix support, exposing profile and Office container inventory, the exact impact of volume mounting on logon time, and clear visibility when a mount fails and prevents the user from logging in.
Nexthink now extends this same depth of visibility down into the infrastructure that virtual desktops depend on, which has historically been a blind spot for EUC Engineers. With new VMware vSphere visibility, Nexthink correlates host performance directly to the VMs and user sessions running on top of it, so you can spot an overloaded host before it ever reaches the end user.
For Citrix environments, new infrastructure critical-events monitoring keeps watch over the health, services, and stability of core components like Delivery Controllers, StoreFront, license servers, and cloud connectors, while dedicated hypervisor dashboards show how Citrix sessions and VMs are distributed over the underlying hypervisor host and how their average performance is tracking, providing a single view that flags overloaded or imbalanced hosts.
Storage performance has a direct impact on overall system performance, and in VDI environments, a single storage issue can degrade the experience for many users simultaneously. Identifying which processes are generating excessive storage pressure is often difficult for administrators, making it challenging to pinpoint the root cause. Nexthink provides engineers with not only the device-level indicator metrics to surface if storage is contributing to a bad user experience (disk queue length, read and write latency), but we’ve also added I/O metrics of the specific executions that are driving the storage pressure. This allows admins to spot current and past I/O usage to pinpoint offending processes more easily.
For scaling and migrations, it is also interesting to understand which applications rely on GPU, since GPUs are such expensive commodities. To help with this, Nexthink now brings resource visibility down to the individual process level as well, capturing four new expanded CPU, GPU, and NPU metrics both for the device and the applications: average usage, total compute time, duration under high load, and maximum usage. With these enhanced insights continually captured, triage teams can compare application behavior over time, right-size vGPU profiles, and build more reliable incident-detection workflows based on real, sustained pressure rather than momentary readings.
