Recently, Brandon Woods of Keysight Technologies shared two workflows that his team was able to implement with Nexthink Flow – allowing them to save time by solve problems more quickly and without human intervention.
Updating Device Drivers for Dell and HP Devices
Keysight’s team frequently found themselves updating drivers for their Dell and HP devices. To do this, engineers had to go through a manual process to identify devices which needed updates, then following up on the remote actions to update to ensure they were successful. The whole process required too much manual intervention and ate up valuable engineering time.
With Nexthink Flow, Keysight used the low code visual designer to build a workflow that automated the pieces of the process, combining them together into an elegant logic system—from checking the status of the devices, identifying the make between Dell and HP, and if the devices required a driver update, automatically pushing the necessary update.
“Nexthink Flow allows us to remove every touchpoint where an engineer had to make a check manually and do manual actions for driver updates, and 100% automate it.” - Brandon Woods, IT Specialist at Keysight Technologies
Now, their entire domain automatically updates drivers as required without any need for engineers to take manual steps to move the process along.
As an added bonus, Brandon also noted that the service desk saw fewer tickets related to drivers and driver issues once they set this workflow in motion.
Easy Visibility in Device Status and Policy Compliance
Keysight uses a specific program, Delinea, to control privileged access management. The program includes a set of policies that must be deployed to each device. As such, the number of policies enabled can give insight into the state of the device so engineers were frequently tasked with checking for policy compliance.
Before Flow, engineers would have to run an investigation to determine the impacted devices, then run a series of remote actions, and then verify the results to check the state of the devices. The manual checks at each step of the process used up too much time and negatively impacted productivity.
With Flow, Keysight automated the entire process from start to finish. Now, Flow can run through each check to verify registry settings, adding in processing delays to allow devices to update, and at the end, checking the policy to see if it is enabled, in sleep mode, or had an error.
“We automated all the thinking an engineer would have to do into a workflow.” - Brandon Woods, IT Specialist at Keysight Technologies
Now, Keysight can instantly discover the status of all their devices without relying on human intervention to manually check and further each necessary step to achieve policy compliance. Additionally, the team can easily communicate with the C-Suite about how they are automating their processes and the logic behind it by showing the highly visual workflow.
